My Name is My Name
My Name is My Name incorporates photography and a system of celebration (altar) to highlight the multi-dimensional relationship between ancestry, ceremonial rituals, elements within nature, dream etching, and protection. The series begins with my name is my name i, 2016, focusing on where private pain occurs and continues through my name is my name, iv, which transforms into communal transformation. The altar’s design delivers some questions on how one may be in communion with themselves. What does it mean to practice mindfulness with yourself and others? How can one sustain this practice? Is it something that we can regularly access in public? How do we navigate protection when we are creating portals of openness? My Name is My Name creates a narrative on how an individual can create their own healing space and prescribe their story in a world that strives to erase you.
